BAAR, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / November 26, 2025 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 167.25, focusing on the identification and correction of errors in the EU’s Regulation (EU) 2022/1616 on recycled materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.
Several errors have been identified since the implementation of the Regulation in October 2022. Key provisions on its publication included:
However, on November 13, Commission Regulation (EU) 2025/2269 was issued by the EU, correcting (EU) 2022/1616, specifically concerning the labeling of recycled plastic, the development of recycling technologies and the transfer of authorizations.
These corrections provide clarification of the original clauses and identify the economic operators responsible for implementing the specified provisions in EU 2022/1616.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 167.25 includes a helpful table comparing the original Regulation with the corrections issued in Regulation (EU) 2025/2269.
