BAAR, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / October 27, 2026 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 139.26, focusing on China's new textile industry standard FZ/T 62053-2025 for washable thin quilts and its impact on testing, labeling and product quality requirements.
Issued by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), FZ/T 62053-2025 came into effect on February 1, 2026, and applies to thin quilts intended for direct use and washing. Products designed for infants aged 36 months and under fall outside the scope of the standard.
A washable thin quilt is defined as a lightweight product made by sewing together two layers of fabric with filling material in between using an appropriate method, with a filling mass per unit area of not more than 150 g/m2.
Category B specifications in Chinese standard GB 18401 are applicable for general safety technical product requirements, with children’s product specifications set out in the Category B requirements of GB 31701. Filling material fibers must comply with GB 18383.
In addition, FZ/T 62053-2025 establishes requirements for fiber content, filling mass deviation, dimensional stability after washing, pilling resistance, fiber leakage resistance and color fastness. The standard also sets out testing and quality control specifications covering a range of performance and quality requirements.
These requirements are intended to increase the safety, durability and quality of washable thin quilts and will affect manufacturers, brand owners, importers, distributors, testing laboratories and quality control personnel producing, testing, certifying and selling washable thin quilts in China.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 139.26 includes further information on the key requirements of FZ/T 62053-2025.
Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 139.26 for more details.
